The Jubilee Event, run by the Luvvies and other volunteers with support in funds and kind from the Stratherrick and Foyers Community Trust and funds from SSE Stronelairg Fund, seems to have been a great success.

Those who attended the event were either involved, heard on facebook, flyer, poster, the Trust email and word of mouth.

We ran a short survey to let the organisers know what you thought about the event and to help us the Trust on future events.  If you want to know more about the Trust's involvment in this project read Gareth Jones article on page 2 of the latest newsletter here

We asked what you liked about the event

1 Family friendly, great location, lovely to see a good mix of ages; relaxed atmosphere

2 everything- food exceptional, chat, met new people, saw friends, loved the field and view, enjoyed the music { though a litttle loud to chat easily} and thought it celebrated the event's reason with a quiz! Fun

3 Kids bouncy castles, Live music

4 Community spirit

5 A community event which catered for all ages and was enjoyed by all. Also, an idea that came from outwith the Trust, whose presence is becoming more and more oppressive and divisive in the community.

6 Relaxed friendly atmosphere, Lots of lovely food and entertainment.

7 That it was a luvies event for the people and not so that the Trust can get another pat on the back Jan Hargreaves conceived and planned it. I don't understand why the Trust think they have a right to even do this survey

16 I liked how it brought the community together and how it managed to get everyone talking to each other. I also met some new people!

19 Great location, lovely atmosphere, well attended. Good to see Soup to Go doing a great job. Evening was well attended, good band and so nice to see a number of teenagers

How could we have improved the event for you?

1 Wasn’t aware of all the different things that the children could do in the afternoon session.

2 not much more to do- a little less loud with the live music within the marquee. That's all.

3 Seemed a lot of trouble for 2 hours in a bouncy castle

4 By having it in a different place and by ensuring people were masked up. I like many others ended up with covid!!  

5 What do you mean by "we"? The Trust, I presume, taking over. The help was appreciated of course but the take-over is yet another corporate move. We are not a corporation, we are a village community.

6 Don't think it needs improving.

7 By distributing money for a community event then leave the organisation to organise it and not try to interfere andtry to take credit for it

8 Bigger floor area for dancing, non slip flooring so I didn't fall over and make an arse of myself! Longer time for ceilidh band, less midges come sundown.....

9 I was very happy with the event.

10 For residents with mobility problems the shinty field was a difficult location to get folk to. I had to push a wheelchair not suitable. Perhaps Wildside would have been more appropriate venue.

11 More activities for kids face painting messy play may bbq or Hogg roast stalls selling local goods ice cream etc

12 Another Venue ie; Wildside

13 For the bouncy castles to stay longer!! :) For the ceilidh band to play for longer because that got everyone up dancing which is fun! Maybe a larger space for dancing A selection of soft drinks for the younger ones

 14 Possibly location, event could have been held at community building with changing area for kids, better toilets and more suitable surface for elderly and disabled folk.

What did you think of the Old Shinty Pitch for the event?

1 It was great - good open space that should be used more often. Would be nice if more of the grass could be cut (perhaps leaving a band of grass along the trees nearest the Loch to allow for wildlife) so that the sunshine could be enjoyed for longer. Might also be a little drier in the areas that have the most sun.

2 Lovely, sunny, not windy, great view, enclosed so made you feel in a nice place.

4 Rubbish - why was it used when there are other facilities more suited - eg riverside field??

5 An ideal choice by the Luvvies.

13 Not the best for residents with mobility issues. Very uneven and wet under foot

15 A logistical nightmare. A lot of unnecessary hard work and expense

16 I think it was a perfect location, it’s big enough, the sun reached it, it’s blocked from the wind

17 Not very accessible, lucky the weather was good or it would have been a disaster. Also no signage to pitches, I had never been and wouldn’t have known if wasn’t told

If you were involved in the planning and operational side of the event what were the positives and what can we learn from the event, particularly in terms of location, logistics, set-up, tea party, ceilidh and disco

1 N/a - but they did a fabulous job

2 N.A

3 Get a professional marquee set up in future. One firm to deal with marquee, stage, seating, electric etc

4 The Trust was set up to oversee Community Benefits money. It has lost sight of the benefit to the community and is now an unwelcome burgeoning presence as a property owner and employer. The Trust's function is to manage and distribute the money, liberally, and not take over. The "Laird" is back.

5 Nothing.

6 I am really upset and flabbergasted that something that was a Luvies Event has been taken over by the Trust. Does that mean that any monies, which is supposed to be for the community , are only handed out if there is constant bowing and scraping to tha trust. The positives were that despite the Trust the luvies worked hard and delivered a proper community event. Having the Trust in the community is becoming very divisive, it's like going back to the days of doffing your cap to the Laid . It's being run by a company. After 30 years of life in a wonderful community life is changing rapidity for the worst

7 Anticipated that it might be difficult to get heavy vehicles onto the site and make the necessar preparations well in advance. More people involved in the setting up of the event. Improve the impact of the location by putting the event in the centre of the space.

8 Answering while I shouldn't.... My understanding of the event is that it was organised by the Lovies, who have yet to be approved for funds to pay for costs, but carried on regardless. The process to hold something for the community AND visitors to the area, who play a big part of survival for numerous businesses, is off putting and therefore detrimental to the good of the area. Aware you asked for positives and hopefully some can be taken from this. Should be a fortnightly event, one in Whitebridge and one at Foyers, or weekly to include Inverfarigage and Gorthleck x

12 Apart from the wrong venue the planning team all worked well together and it was a very happy day . Although I understand that after the erection if the Marquees the man power the day before event was rather limited. I know of a couple if men who said they would have helped had they known beforehand.
