It’s Friday. And five things…
This week I fixed and painted a fence at home. I knew the job needed to be done, I had everything I needed and at the end there was a sense of completion. If only everything was so easy! But I can see plans slowly coming together day to day at work.
WELCOME MARK HENDERSON
Mark Henderson, who lives in Errogie, has accepted the role of the Trust Caretaker and starts at the beginning of May. Welcome Mark to the Team.
PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR & WORK TENDERS
The Project Co-Ordinator Role is still being advertised. This is a new full time role and applications close 3rd May at noon. You can read more here Contracts for work | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk) – there are also contracts for gardening services and providing benches for outside areas as we plan for the summer months. All can be found at the link.
E BIKES
I noticed that SOSA are having an e bike trial taking place on 26th April at 3pm at Wildside. More details here Launch of E-bike Trial. | 26 April 2021 | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)
I managed to catch up with a colleague about their own communities E Bike service for residents and tourists this week which was very useful if the community want to develop this programme further. I’ve done e bike trials before and they have encouraged people (non-cyclists) to buy their own and I’ve heard great things about them when having to go up challenging hills. So, Give It A Go if you have the time. There is a rather lovely new What’s On Guide on the website, so you do not miss any if these events. Check it out here What's On | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)
WORKING TOGETHER
As the Community Action Plan develops and conversations begin between individuals and community groups, we are seeing a picture of how we can work together, share resources and information. Initial face to face chats started this week with the Green Team who are starting a bee keeping course and wish to run an outdoor summer event with Trust support and the involvement of other community groups. It is early days, but the seeds are being sown for more joint working in the future. The Green Team have an event this weekend so go say hello at the Stratherrick and Foyers Market. Get up to speed with the Community Action Plan or add or show your support for ideas in the Ideas bank here Home | Future Ideas (communityfuture.net)
TOURISM IN THE AREA
As I write this, I am about to have a meeting between Highland Council and Visit Scotland about the opening of the Highlands for tourism as restrictions are being lifted and how to support local communities during what is expected to be a busy time. For example, they covered ‘littering’ materials and advice, an issue that came up in the recent CAP discussions. That will be followed by a Community Action Plan Steering Group. From where I am sitting I can now see my completely repaired and painted fence and reflecting on what had to be prepared before work started. Probably six months of thinking time and shopping around during the winter! As I gallop towards the end of month two in the role I hope we have a few completed projects this year. Now, about that fence at Wildside…
If you’d like to get involved in developments at Wildside our new website includes a get involved button that takes you direct to the lead directors email – check it out here The Wildside Centre | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)
