FIVE IMPRESSIVE THINGS FOR A FRIDAY

WORLDWIDE SPINNING

Members of the Stratherrick Spin & Chatter group will once again be participating in the Worldwide Spinning In Public Day on Saturday 16th September. They will be demonstrating spinning at the Wildside Centre in Whitebridge from 11am until 3pm.  We hope many of you will pop in to see them have a chat and maybe try your hand at spinning.

STAND FOR YOUR COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Having a strong Community Council is key to any community when putting forward a Community Action Plan and Place Plan.  Having an election, with more candidates than places, also helps.  We're reminding everyone that there is still time to submit nomination forms if you are considering putting yourself forward as a Community Council candidate. Read more about this opportunity here - https://ow.ly/wXBg50PLwiQ

Closing date = 12noon Tuesday 3 October

Full details here - http://www.highland.gov.uk/ccelections

The Community Council will also be at the Community Catch Up event on 23rd September and if this is of interest to you have a chat and put your nomination in.

If achievements locally like this are of interest then Community Council is for you – because you make this happen Road Improvements lead to multiple benefits. | 13 September 2023 | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)

GROUPS ARE GO

That does impress me much.  The line dancing class at Wildside is looking like a lot of fun.  The FIRA Youth Club is started up again with a change of day on a Wednesday at Wildside. The mobile library is on Wednesday 20th at Wildside at 11am.  And don’t forget Soup To Go Mondays, Bowling For All, Highland Dancing and Needles and Pins on Tuesday 19, Baby and Toddlers on a Thursday morning and this week we also have a private party.  The Wildside is a multi use venue provided by the Trust and supported by an army of volunteers who put on events for your enjoyment.  You can do it to – so if you want to book the venue details are here The Wildside Centre | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)

Hopefully some of the groups will be at our Catch Up event in Stratherrick Hall in Gorthleck at 23rd September from 11am to 2pm.

The Wildside Centre isn’t the only venue you can use.  It was good to see the MacmIllan Coffee morning taking place in the BBC Hub this week, Pilates at the Stratherrick Hall (after getting too big for the Wildside), the Clay Target Shoot on Thursday at Torness, check out the walks the pathways group are producing on the website and the Heritage Group talk is coming soon on the banks of Loch Ness.  These are just some of the events that are re-starting after Covid and as people get used to engaging with each other, despite a cost of living crisis.  Find out what is happening on our What’s On calendar here Calendar | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)

If volunteering is your thing then there is another opportunity here Can you help? | 14 September 2023 | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)

NEW STAFF MEMBER

The Trust has a new staff member.  Hello to Kirsteen Campbell, our new Administration Officer, who lives in Foyers.  She is currently doing a handover with Laura and is already up and running.  Welcome to the team.

COMMUNITY CATCH UP & SSE FUNDING REPORT

Finally we’ve been working away on the fireworks, Winter Wonderland, Trust AGM and Community Catch Up event – more details on that here Community Catch Up & Free Lunch! | 11 September 2023 | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk) . Alongside all the community activity above as have identified over 40 projects (large and small) in the Community Action Plan and Local Place Plan to keep us busy.  This builds on the funds we got from funders, including SSE (who hope to be at the event on the 23rd Sept) and the external funds we have attracted / helped community groups to get.  The SSE funding report for last year has been published and is is available here.
